How are people losing faith in institutions?! Since 2016 there has been no end to “good” liberals who are concerned with the rise of conspiracy theories (both real and imagined) and who are distraught at the lack of confidence Americans have in the mainstream media and “technocratic” institutions like the CDC, FBI, and CIA. Since the start of the pandemic, the CDC’s messaging has been horrific. During the initial days of the plague, the CDC and technocrats like Fauci knowingly lied to Americans, telling us that masks weren’t effective. They did this for a good reason – to prevent hoarding – but the lie was obvious to anyone who listened, and the results were disastrous. Americans do not want to wear a mask and there is a video of the “smartest scientists” telling us it doesn’t work. At the start of this year, we were told that we would not have to worry about the plague if we got vaccinated, only later did they tell us that we still must wear a mask. In hindsight, they were lying to us to make sure people would get vaccinated, but people saw through it, they got vaccinated and then were told they still had to wear a mask! The results are disastrous. People are not goldfish, but the CDC’s messaging has treated them like it. People can recognize when they are being lied to and they feel as though the CDC is constantly moving the goalposts. Things will never return to normal.
The CDC has now decided that things must return to normal. Fresh off the Democrat’s total failure to pass any meaningful legislation and Joe Biden’s refusal to force it through via executive fiat, the CDC has announced that the quarantine period for asymptomatic carriers can be reduced from ten to five days! Why? The economy! Fauci himself said that “There is the danger that there will be so many people who are being isolated who are asymptomatic for the full ten days, that you could have a major negative impact on our ability to keep society running. So the decision was made of saying let’s get that cut in half.” Too many people were out of work, sick, with the plague, but with a shortage of workers, it appears that giving suburbanites a Hooters waitress to ogle at is more important than public health. At least that’s my theory. The Democrats want a strong economy to run on in 2022, because, well, what else can they run on? They have failed to do anything else. To be clear, I do not think that Biden strong-armed the CDC like Trump, that’s not his style, we are witnessing class solidarity, a “strong economy” means the DOW Jones is at its height, human suffering be damned.
The CDC is also recommending that asymptomatic cases do not need to take a test before returning to work because there is a risk that they could test positive! The recommendation, therefore, is that they were two masks while they are still sick. When I worked at the Hampton Inn, my boss had a coworker who was actively sick with COVID come. I can still remember the fear we all had, one woman was even fired for complaining too loud. Now the CDC is telling us that it is okay, if only he will wear two masks (he refused to wear one, the CDC probably believes that he is the exception). Early in the pandemic, Americans were repeatedly told that asymptomatic carriers are dangerous, that they can spread the virus the same as someone who is coughing to death. People see that they are being lied to, it is obvious! What is clear is what matters, we must sacrifice ourselves for what is important. “The old Lie,” as Wilfred Owen put it, who could have predicted that we would make the tragedy so stupid.
